Maintain momentum

Much attention is given to overcoming the challenge of starting something new.

Keeping it up for the long run, however, is often the more challenging part.

Especially when it comes to the habits that keep us healthy and happy.

There are a gazillion reasons not to do what we’ve set out to do.

We can find any and every reason to get derailed.

It seems at times we seek them out.

Travel.

Working late.

Family emergencies.

Social functions.

Or maybe we’re just not “feeling it”.

Something comes up that throws a wrench in our routine.

Then, once derailed, we don’t get back to it.

One reason for this is “all or nothing” thinking.

The idea that if we aren’t totally into it.

If we’re not going to have a perfect training session.

Or make the most nutritious, delicious meal.

Or whatever it is that we normally do.

Perfectly.

That we might as well not do anything at all.

Life gets in the way.

That’s unavoidable.

What matters is how we respond when things don’t go according to plan.

How we handle these times when we want to just “not”.

Sometimes, this means finding that space between “all” and “nothing”.

That middle ground.

You won’t always feel motivated or successful.

You won’t kill it every training session.

You won’t nail every meal.

You don’t have to.

You just show up.

Maintain momentum.

Adjust if necessary.

Check the box.

Do work.

That’s it.

That’s enough.

You’re enough.

Always.

You’ve got this.
