Small steps are taken more easily

It’s so tempting to want to take big steps.

To make a major change.

We’ve identified something we’re not happy with.

Our relationships.

We then start thinking about what we can do about it.

Grand visions come to mind.

Completely changing our circumstances.

Totally overhauling how we eat.

Completely cutting people off.

Jumping headfirst into a new vocation.

We’re so tempted to go all in on a totally different approach.

This desire makes sense.

After all, big steps mean big results.

Plus, the more we change at once, the sooner our situation will improve.

This might be true.

But what if we take the wrong big step?

What if our overhaul doesn’t work for us?

Or what if part of it does but part of it doesn’t?

What if we end up missing some aspects of our current situation?

How do we know what to do then?

How do we go back to the way things were before?

What if we can’t go back to the way things were before?

Rather than take big steps.

Rather than make major changes.

Rather than overhaul your life.

Take small steps.

Small steps are taken more easily.

If in the right direction, repeated more easily.

If in the wrong direction, corrected more easily.

Over time, these steps add up.

Moving you closer to your most excellent life.

What small step can you take today?

It might not be exciting.

You might not think it’ll do much to change your situation.

That may be the case.

But you’ve got time.

You’ve made it this far and you can make it a bit farther.

If you can’t.

If you’re truly against a wall.

If you must make a fast, big decision.

Do the best you can.

Forgive yourself.

Otherwise, be patient.

Take a small step.

See how it works for you.

Adjust if necessary.

You are worthy of a most excellent life.

You’ll get there.

You’ve got this.
