You don’t have to moderate

We’re often told “all things in moderation”.

That if we don’t eat something we’re going to feel “deprived”.

That our approach will be unsustainable.

That we’ve got a problem.

Guess what.

What you eat is 100% up to you.

If you want to eat something, eat it.

If you don’t want to eat something, don’t.

Does what you eat affect how you look, feel, and perform?

Of course.

And you’ll probably want this to play a role in your decisions.

Can what you eat be an indication of potentially problematic thoughts and feelings?

Sure.

But not always.

Sometimes, you just know that you’re going to have a really hard time eating “just one”.

Sometimes, you just know that eating something isn’t going to sit well with you.

Sometimes, you’re just taking a bet on what you think will help you live a long, happy, life.

Saying “nope” in these circumstances is totally cool.

If you know you struggle to moderate — in general, with specific foods, whatever — you don’t have to.

It’s okay to say “no, thank you”.

You might, however, explore what’s at the root of your struggles.

Fear and shame?

Or self-love, confidence, and a desire for the best life?

Whether your eating habits are problematic or not is more dependent on your thoughts and feelings than on what you do or do not eat.

Whether you feel “deprived” or not is totally up to you.

These are for you and you alone to decide.

The only person in charge of what you eat is you.

Nobody else.

Life is way too short to eat or not eat something for any reason other than whether it plays a role in your best life.

Because you deserve that.

You deserve the best life.

You’re worthy.

You’ve got this.
